TA reported that Swansea is about to appoint 37-year-old Portuguese coach Vitor Matos as the team's new head coach. Matos was a former assistant to Klopp.

The club has agreed to pay a termination fee of 1 million euros (approximately 880,000 pounds) to Portuguese Liga team Maritimo. Matos will sign a four-year contract and join three assistant coaches and is expected to be on hand to watch the team's game against Bristol City this Saturday.

Matos previously served as Liverpool's elite development coach for five years from 2019 to 2024. As an important member of Klopp's coaching team, he was mainly responsible for the connection between youth training and the first team. In the summer of 2025, he coached the adult team for the first time. After taking over Maritimo, he led the team to temporarily rank third in the Portuguese Liga standings.

Swansea fired former coach Alan Sheehan on November 11 due to poor performance, and Darren O'Day is currently acting as head coach. Although Sheehan was appointed to lead the team to successfully avoid relegation last season, the team's performance this season has continued to be sluggish, and they were booed by fans after a recent home defeat.
