According to the Guardian, due to the inability to find a replacement candidate and coach Glasner strongly opposed it, Crystal Palace canceled Guy's transfer.

The media revealed that Crystal Palace dramatically stopped Mark Guy's transfer to Liverpool at the last minute. Although they have agreed to sell the England defender for £35 million, the operation has been terminated due to failure to find a suitable replacement.

It is understood that Guy had originally booked a physical examination and was preparing to complete the first phase of transfer to Liverpool. The transaction order was submitted before the deadline of 7 pm on Monday. Although Crystal Palace confirmed to sign French U20 defender Jedi Canvo from Toulouse for £21 million, the club finally decided to reject Gee's departure at the last minute because it failed to introduce another more experienced candidate.

It is reported that Crystal Palace coach Oliver Glasner was extremely dissatisfied with the decision to accept Liverpool's offer and reiterated his position of "opposing the sale of the captain on the last day of the transfer window" in a meeting with club chairman Steve Parish on Monday night.

This attitude, as well as the fact that Crystal Palace failed to introduce a direct replacement in time, ultimately convinced Parrish to inform Liverpool of the cancellation of the deal.
