Recently, a piece of information about people seeking to adopt puppies due to the demolition of a dog farm went viral on Weibo and WeChat Moments. The message said, "The puppy is about to starve to death." Seeing this, many dog lovers felt pity and forwarded it without thinking. After many dog lovers clicked on it, they found that it only allowed them to forward and view the advertisement, and there was no actual content about adopting a dog at all.

"Free pet adoption" is a scam
"Whoever is interested in adopting a puppy, it is free. There are Rottweilers, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, VIPs... There is a dog farm next to Heilongjiang Road that is to be demolished. There are thousands of dogs that will starve to death if no one adopts them. If you want to adopt, please contact Ms. Liu. Your copy and paste can save the lives of countless dogs." Ms. Liu, a citizen, told reporters that she once contacted an account to get a dog, but the other party gave a fixed answer. Subsequently, the reporter added a WeChat ID called "Adopt and see signature". The personalized signature of this WeChat account requires you to add QQ first, then view the dog photos and select the dog. Following the prompts, the reporter added a QQ account with the same woman's avatar, and the QQ name was "Dogchang XX". After passing the verification, before the reporter could speak, the other party sent a QQ message saying "time is tight and the task is heavy" and delivered three "adoption" steps: First, in order to make sure that you are sincere and not here to cause trouble, first copy the dog adoption information and send it to 7 QQ groups or WeChat groups, and send the screenshot to this QQ. We see The photo album will be sent to you immediately; the second step, after selecting the pet, contact this QQ to confirm whether it has been taken away (each person is limited to 1); the third step, in order to help everyone take better care of the dog, we specially compiled the "Dog Raising and Training Video Tutorial Materials" (a total of 13 sets of videos and several e-books) and sent it to 5 groups of friends. When a reporter asked how to adopt someone who didn’t even know the address, she said, “I won’t reply if there are less than 7 or other content.” According to her request, the reporter forwarded 7 groups and took screenshots to her but still received no response. After repeated requests from the reporter, the other party sent a link, clicked to enter, and the reporter saw a purely advertising website.
Police remind people to be cautious when adopting pets
Reporters have learned that "free pet adoption" fraud crimes have occurred in many cities recently. Most of them defraud money on the pretext of charging consignment fees. Pet adoption scams have several common characteristics: usually they are adopted from another place. The pet is worth thousands of yuan, and the adopter only needs to pay a few hundred yuan for shipping. The other party will proactively provide a logistics company's website or phone number, and then ask the adopter to continue to remit money on the grounds of incorrect remittance, system upgrade, etc., until the adopter becomes alert. The police reminded that it is best to adopt a pet in the same city and claim it in person. Adopting pets from other places must be treated with caution. Before paying the freight, you should be aware that shipping a pet is not just a matter of simply paying the freight. It needs to be strictly reviewed by epidemic prevention and other departments, and an animal health and immunity certificate must be issued. Adopters are best to choose their own logistics company, and pay freight to a personal account through cash on delivery.
