Symptoms
Generally, dogs have this problem and will suddenly develop the disease. There are no obvious signs in advance. The dog will show symptoms of mental excitement. Soon, symptoms of convulsions occur, intermittent or ankylosing muscle spasm, stiff limbs, shaking gaits, and even unable to get up. Some dogs with more serious problems may also experience symptoms such as high temperature, difficulty breathing, rapid pulse, and foaming on the mouth, and the visual mucosa is blue-purple. From the occurrence of symptoms to the occurrence of cramps, it is about 15 minutes short and about 12 hours long. After more urgent and severe cases, if the treatment is not done in time, it will be more than 1 to 2 days to suffocate and die.
How to deal with
If the female dog twitches more frequently, it is difficult to achieve relief effects by relying on ordinary calcium supplements alone. Therefore, certain medical methods are needed. If the owner can inject it himself, he can inject 10% calcium gluconate 5-20ml. The injection speed should not be too fast. At the same time, intravenous injection of pentobarbital 2-4 mg/kg body weight or chlorpromazine hydrochloride 1.1-6.6 mg/kg body weight (this is an intramuscular injection) to control the problem of dog twitching. Then add appropriate amount of calcium to the female dog every day and bask in the sun more often.
Recovery period maintenance
Reasonable calcium supplementation every day is essential. Take your dog out for exercise appropriately and bask in the sun more to help absorb calcium.
Precautions
1. Although dogs lack calcium, the amount of supplements should still be reasonable, otherwise it will only backfire.
2. In order to prevent postpartum convulsions, corresponding calcium supplements should be done before delivery, and sufficient calcium, vitamin D and inorganic salts should be provided in the food.
3. If the number of childbirths is large and I feel that there is pressure on the female dog, the owner can appropriately use goat milk powder to replace breast milk to share the pressure on the female dog.
