Case History
On March 8, Lucheng Public Security Wuma Police Station received a call from citizen Mr. Chen, claiming that he was defrauded of 5,930 yuan for adopting a pet cat online.
After learning, Xiao Chen saw netizens posting information about adopting British shorthair cats on "Little Red Book". The other party said that he was unable to take good care of the kitten due to work reasons and wanted to find a new owner for the kitten. Xiao Chen added the other party's WeChat account, and the two parties agreed on the adoption details. The other party told Xiao Chen that if the kitten was healthy within a month, the money would be returned, and asked Xiao Chen to take photos for her to verify every week.

Later, the other party required Xiao Chen to pay 1,230 yuan on the grounds of deposit, air consignment fee, consignment deposit, etc., and told Xiao Chen that a pet shop would be responsible for subsequent consignment details. Xiao Chen did not raise any suspicion and transferred money to the other party through Alipay.
Later, a man who claimed to be the person in charge of the pet store contacted Xiao Chen. Due to the complexity of consigning pets, a deposit was required at each site. After receipt of the goods was confirmed, the deposit would be returned to Xiao Chen. So Xiao Chen successively paid another 4,700 yuan. But when Xiao Chen asked for information such as the waybill number, he was refused by the other party for reasons such as route change.
On March 8, Xiao Chen finally received a kitten, but when he opened the express box, he found that it was not the British shorthair cat in the video at all. So he contacted the other party to refund the deposit, but received no reply from the other party. At this time, Xiao Chen realized that he had been cheated, so he reported the case to the police.
After investigation, the police identified the suspects as Wu, a woman from Guangze, Fujian, and Fu, a man from Yingkou, Liaoning. On June 9, the police organized police forces to go to Yingkou, Liaoning Province, where the suspect was located, and arrested the two people and brought them to justice.
After interrogation, the suspect, Wu, is 24 years old. Wu told the police that because she was short of money, she teamed up with her boyfriend Fu to search for photos of British shorthair cats on the Internet and posted false recruitment information. In order to deceive Xiao Chen, Wu even bought a cheap cat online and sent it to Xiao Chen.
At present, all the money defrauded by Xiao Chen has been recovered, and the suspects Wu and Fu have been subject to criminal coercive measures by the police in accordance with the law.
